Sierra de Gredos is located within the Sistema Central Mountain range which forms the backbone of the Iberian peninsula. It boasts a rich and diverse heritage of grape growing and a number of unusual grapes which cannot be found elsewhere in Spain. The decomposed soils, coupled with the wide diurnal temperatures experienced at the high altitude sites - 700-1100 MASL - give rise to fine, elegant, age-worthy wines. The 90 year old bush vines offer low yield of concentrated juice from the warm sunny days, countered by fresh, balancing acidity from the cool nights.
Small, terraced, northerly-oriented parcels were hand-harvested and de-stemmed prior to fermentation in concrete tanks with natural yeasts selected for maximum expression. Five months ageing took place in concrete tanks without any influence of oak to preserve the purity of the fruit. The resulting wine is a light, delicate and perfumed expression of Garnacha with crunchy blueberries enhanced by subtle floral hints. The wine is fresh, with firm tannins surrounding a core of lively fruit, giving way to a persistent and sustained finish. Drinks beautifully with cold cuts and is an absolute delight chilled for one hour prior to opening.
