In the tiny village of Montreal du Gers, South-West France, Remy and Eric Estrade farm 25 year old vines of Colombard and Sauvignon Blanc to traditional and sustainable methods. Harvest takes place between 3-9am in order to retain maximum freshness. A cold, skin-contact maceration, and stainless-steel tank fermentation occur at low temperatures to ensure optimum aromas and flavours are preserved, prior to a brief period of lees-ageing in order to impart a subtle complexity.
A young, fresh wine of pale straw (with green tinges) and aromas of citrus and passion fruit, combined with (trademark-Sauvignon) cassis leaf and gooseberry. The palate is abundantly fresh with hints of grapefruit and a repeat of the citrus/tropical fruits alongside a floral touch. A long, harmonious finish and - what is now considered - a relatively low level of alcohol (at 11.5%) make for a very pleasing and exceptionally good value light white.
