The highly aromatic and delicate grape Viognier ('Vee-on-yay') produces the perfect wine for spring. Grown in various climates, it is a wine of many styles, taking influence from its terroir and the stewardship of the grower/winemaker. Characteristically floral by nature, it exhibits trademark aromas of honeysuckle and orange blossom, whilst the fruits tend to be of the tropical variety.
We are delighted to be able to offer you this grape in a few different forms; from Uruguay, a fresh, crisp early-drinking example, whilst from South Africa's Lismore Estate, something a little more complex, as a result of a period of battonage (lees-stirring) and judicious oak-ageing. If that isn't enough, there's also a beautifully aromatic, expressive example from Ktima Gerovassiliou - responsible for the stunning Malagousia we love - in Northern Greece. Oh, and if you happen to prefer it in the French (Coindreu) vein, we have that too, courtesy of the Matervini Winery, Mendoza.
For anyone that has been aware of our Instagram, along with this store, will know, we have never tried to hide our admiration for the multi-awarded winery of Mendoza's Susana Balbo.
Rightfully considered 'The Queen of Argentinian Wine', Susana has been the driving force behind the evolution of fresh, elegant expressions of the country's native grape, Torrontes, whilst crafting exquisite Chardonnays alongside her 'white blend' of Torrontes, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
All of her wines posess an air of grace and sophistication, displaying as they do, perfect balance of fruit purity and subtle ageing, where relevant.
Whilst recognised for her whites, the reds are equally enjoyable, so it comes as no surprise to us that the 'Signature' Rose is an absolute dream too.
Complimenting our existing rose offerings from Provence, France and Salento, Italy, this example is pure class!
