Producer: Chateau Larcis Ducasse

Region: Saint Emilion, Bordeaux

Blend: Merlot, Cabernet Franc

Traditionally, Chateau Larcis Ducasse - a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe - was regarded as a property with exceptional terroir but with constant underperformance. However, with the arrival of Nicolas Thienpont (Chateau Pavie Macquin) and Stephane Derenoncourt in 2002, changes were made to try to recapture the glories of the past. As of 2005, all work in the vineyards moved to 100% organic farming methods. Coupled with this, harvest generally occurred later, when the fruit was appropriately ripe, and took two to three weeks instead of the previous two to three days. Greater quantities of Cabernet Franc were planted too.

Murmure de Larcis Ducasse was born from a simple idea: a wine for enjoyment that didn't require years of cellaring. From 2010, the vineyard started to produce a '2nd wine' - more accessable than their '1st wine' yet still attentively nurtured with respect for the vines and the afore-mentioned practices of the chateau.

The 2014 vintage is delightful! A nose of incredible fruit purity, cherries, blackberries and cut flowers leading to a silky and beautifully textured palate showing a mineral streak. Medium body and length, the finish is polished and slightly herbal due to the presence of the Cabernet Franc, perfectly balancing the mouth-watering acidity. At its peak right now!

Serve: 16-18°  |  With: Roasted Shoulder of Lamb, Pheasant
